On Thursday, September 28th, Town Centre students from STRIVE attended We Day at the Air Canada Centre. Each year the We organization hosts We Day to inspire thousands of lucky high school students to make a change in their local and global communities. This year, Town Centre students were treated to some spectacular performances and speakers including a surprise visit from Prince Harry. STRIVE member Archchenaa U. shares her experience from We Day 2017.
We Day this year was a whole lot different than last year. For one thing, I enjoyed my volunteer posting a lot more because I was in the crowd, on the red carpet with the We Day mascot and got to take pictures for a whole bunch of people. This year, more than last year, it was for the kids and for inspiring every single person in the arena. The speakers spoke about different issues that all carried the same passion and environment. From sitting in the crowd with my friends, I picked up two things: one from Prince Harry and one from Mia Farrow. Prince Harry was a surprise and sure that was great, but I remember him talking about how we can’t help or learn about the world from staying at home. He mentioned that we should jump at every chance we can to get out of our comfort zones and I took that message to heart and as motivation to not stay at home for university. It recently became a topic at home for where I should apply and Prince Harry, on the We Day stage, gave me the final push to make my decision. As for Mia Farrow, she left the stage with one sentence that I will leave you with: “Look for someone to help and happiness will find you.”
